Signs You May Have Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are insects that are oval in shape, wingless, rust coloured. They feed on human blood, usually during the night which can sometimes lead to you involuntarily squishing them and staining your sheets. They become inactive after excessive blood sucking.

Here are a few noticeable signs you have bed bugs

  • Blood stains on your sheets or pyjamas as noted above

  • Red itchy spots on your skin, especially after waking

  • Unpleasantly strong, musty, mouldy smell

  • Bed bug fecal spots, egg shells or shed skins hidden in places where bed bugs hide

Fortunately bed bugs are visible to the naked eye. There colour ranges from red to brown depending on whether they are filled with blood or not.

If you think you have a bed bug problem, it is best to seek a professional for help as bed bugs are easily transported/spreadable. They will latch on to clothing, luggage or any other personal belongings which makes them hard to get rid of.
